Mickleover Sports Football Club Match Report

"Bloody" Blounty tucks away peno in one all draw! (First Team)
1/12/2007
Hi sporties saturday saw us take the short journey to Nottingham to play Arnold Town who were 4 points and 3 places above us in theleague. Confidence was high after last weeks win and the only down side were the injury to Slates (hamstring) and overnight illness to Liam Oliver but again it gives others a chance to impress. Its been diffficult to get a settled side for different reasons and believe thats been a big part of our inconsistent form , but i know that the atmosphere and togetherness of the players we will soon see us get to where we want to be.
John Guthrie ,grandson of rams stalwart Gordon came in at right back , and Holmsey after his off the bench goal scoring exploits last week came in for Slates . On the bench saw Middi and Young Ryan Lee , anyone who knows the pitch and surroundings at Arnold know its always a factor on the day . We started off in a positive manner and again got into good situations but our quality at the crucial time lets us down, whether its a bad pass or bad decision making but we dont kill teams off. Rob Spencer who on the day gave everything could have had a first half hat -trick and quite easily should be in double figures for the season ,but it wasn't to be so at the break it was all square ,Much the same was wanted in the second half ,but Arnold were making it difficult so it was time for change and after 60 mins Middi was sent on and to be fair on his day he can change games . Straight away his pace was causing problems and with 10 mins to go we were awarded a penalty
given for handball . Blounty who by this time was patched up with a head bandage after being caught late from a clash of heads stepped up to put it away . As i have never seen him take his pens i dont know how good it was but it ended up in the back of the net , so now it was up too us to see it through . We nearly add to scoreline but Arnold start to put us under pressure ,but with the backline looking solid , i couldnt see them scoring . However after having chances to clear the ball Middi loses control and they score with a curling shot from the edge of the box.
Game over ends in a 1-1 draw , everyone is dissapointed but we can see good things are happening and our performances are improving , As a team we look hard to beat which at times this season hasnt always been the case , now we need to improve in front of goal which i hope will happen on Saturday when we entertain Parkgate , so if you want to avoid the xmas shopping get yourself down station road
